Description

The Stiletto Hot is a nicely designed and superbly constructed 1.2 m all molded slope soarer / discus launched glider. It has a wing with less dihedral than the Lift version, making it better when flying at speed and improving its aerobatic performance. It is a very convenient size - large enough to give nearly the same performance as a 1.5m (60") model but able to be transported and stored more easily.

The Stiletto Hot has a goods speed range, is easy to fly, and has excellent performance or its size. It can be tip thrown like all DLGs or even bungee launched. It is equally happy on a slope as on the flat. We also sell the Stiletto Lift which is the same model with more dihedral, making it better for thermal hunting.

The fuselage is a generous carbon molding with as good sized hatch for easy installation of the RC. It is recommended that all four servos are installed in the pod, to eliminate the need for noseweight. The fuselage is a one piece design

The flying surfaces are all solid core molded, with workmanship of the highest standard. The fin is glass over foam, with carbon reinforcements. The fin incorporates a tubular front part, to mate with the fuselage tailboom, for easy and accurate construction. The tailplane (horizontal stabiliser) is of similar construction to the fin, and is mounted on a short pylon above the tailboom. The wing especially is wonderfully made, with a high gloss finish and attractive very visible colour schemes. The supplied accessories include a throwing blade, all control horns, and pushrods.

Although a ballast system is not included space under the wing is vacant and will a little ingenuity substantial lead could be mounted to incease the flying speed and wind speed range the model can cope with.

Some of the photos show the Stiletto Lift - the Stiletto Hot is identical except for reduced wing dihedral.

We just stock the spread carbon layup two piece wing Stiletto. This layup is lighter and more rigid. The wing separation only adds a few grams to the weight and makes the Stiletto a great holiday model.

Received the parcel in Romania after 8 days. All in excellent order. Thanks.

Fantastic model

A relatively steep learning curve needs to be traversed to assemble this model (as I imagine is the case with most DLG's).

But the pay off is a very robust, practical, light, and agile glider. You will be incredibly unfortunate to break this model beyond repair. Mine has been treated very badly as I learned to fly it.. and it's still going strong.

Check my YouTube page (Big Smoke Rc) for videos of the flight envelope - by a complete novice. It is a fast, acrobatic model with fantastic agility, but on a sunny day it will soon become too high to see! It responds very well to a little camber and inverse differential as a 'thermal' mode. It is my favourite model to fly. Very very satisfying to thermal, then fly acrobatics once the thermals are gone. Then the two part wing means it can go in a backpack for the trip home!

I can recommend setting up with strings (fishing braid) and springs, instead of push rods. The tail surfaces are very slim, so take care with the springs. Do not use any sort of cheap 5min epoxy or CA where it will contact the foam cores. They will melt. Use only 'proper' epoxy.

I hope this model is back in stock soon. I would love to purchase another one

Thanks Neil at hyperflight for the great service with some problematic servos. Everything delivered fast and safe.

Cheers!

Stiletto Hot

final update. my data logger now shows 35hrs in the air since boxing day. this model is tuff. the only damage so far was a fumbled catch where the wing bounded off my TX and one of the switches went though the aileron, two tiny bits of hing tape later. i also missed another catch and it landed backwards on the rudder pulling the horn out, or did i not put enough glue on ?? all of the dog walkers and others that i have met on our village sports field agree that this is good exercise, physicaly and mentally. not to mention the walk there and back.
i still can not believe how this model hangs in the air. my average flite time is 45 seconds with the longest 73 seconds. still no thermals as i usually fly at dawn to avoid people and be in the hour at dawn when the wind dosen't blow.
this model has unbelivable anti gravity performance. i realy hope you will be able to get the electric version as well. as the 1.2m wingspan is so convenient to carry wings on, store and put in the car.
the only thing i can think of that beats the perfomance of this model is Hyperflights own customer service.

update. well it's built 189 grammes with 350mah 2 s lipo and no lead. i have not motorised yet but have flown it 13 days out of the last 15 on the local vilage sports pitches (it handles wind quite well). i just stuck the sevros in laid flat on servo tape. i did change the rudder / elevator to spring / put cord as i found the snakes would not run smoothly. (stretchy outers). pulled the cord through the servo horn and tacked in place with meduim cyno. Please, please, prity please can we have the electric version as well? the 1200mm wingspan is perfect to walk with at full arm stretch. i am easily launching this to 80 to 100 feet but have yet to find a thermal so a motor will extend flights over 35 to 60 seconds..

the model arrived very well packaged and only 2 days from the notifcation of posting, so brilliant service as normal.
i have only looked at the model so far and the quality looks magnificent. i should point out the wing is asimetricly split for right handed DLG. i will be a while putting this together as i am going to motorise as well.

Fast delivery and well packed
My first build and it was very easy and quick

I mainly slope and it hoons around the sky on max control surface throws
Loops in its own length but can also fly sedately (40% expo)
The two piece wing and easy remove tail make it the perfect portable glider
It fits into pvc ducting allowing me to strap it to my motor cycle and go any where for some adventure flying

Stiletto Hot Pre-Build Review

Stiletto Hot Pre-Build Review
I was delighted opening the Stiletto Hot box to find everything well protected and the full carbon wings look just fantastic. Very nice finish and all the bits fit together perfectly.
I have been hankering for a light DLG to fly off the slope when everyone else is moaning the lack of wind since my 1m Mini TopSky suffered a mid-air with a RCRCM Typhoon at some speed. The Typhoon was unmarked!
The carbon fuselage has a hexagon (6 sided) section, wider than it’s tall in front of the wing (40mm x 30mm), tapering to closer to square (10mm x 8mm) at the tail. This gives a nice flat section under the canopy of about 27mm x 110mm to install the servos.
The assembly guide show BMS21HV servos mounted on their side, which seem to be excessive for what I am after at 15g each. Neil sent me 4 x BMS-101HV (less than 5g each) and they can be mounted standing up and screwed down to a standard ply mounting board side by side 2x2. These BMS-101 servos are only 21mm tall overall including the arm. I am very pleased by the lack of gear noise and slop.
The other advantage of the hexagon section is the elevator / rudder snakes have a natural channel down the inside of the fuselage to follow when they are glued in.
The Stiletto assemble instructions show the tail post fixed to the fuselage, whereas the design has changed, for the better, to have it separate (see the Boom assembly guide https://www.jimaero.com/customer-service). This means you can make the push rod Z bends and then finally glue the post to the fuselage to end up with a perfect neutral.
I plan to install the FrSky Rx under the wing so the antenna exit behind the wing TE away from as much carbon as possible. A trail CofG balance with the main components taped together suggests I can get 650mA 2S LiPo up front which will last for days.
I am enjoying having that ‘new toy’ feeling so much, and the good flying weather, I seem to be putting off making a start. I have every expectation it will come together easily and fly great to keep out of the path of speedy Typhoons.
