Description

The F2915/12 XLight is a ver light high performance cased outrunner for light 3m - 4m electric gliders, especially F5J competition model up to 1300g weight. The 28mm diameter outer can does not rotate and the wires extend from the rear so it is perfect for installing in narrow glider noses, and the 5mm motor shaft stands up to dorked landings.

Eliminating the gearbox simplifies the powertrain and reduces the risk of failure. It also results in requiring a smaller (less efficient) propeller. In the past that was a disadvantage as powertrain efficiency was essential for good performance. However with the current state of technology excellent performance can be achieved even with small props, and they do offer several advantages, namely:

Less stuff hanging out in the wind and less glide drag, so overall better glide performance, especially at speed.
Usually a higher pitch speed is obtained, allowing very fast transitions to a low level thermal a long way away (if you are one of those god-pilots who know there the lift is).
Smaller propellers reduce the effects of torque, making the initial climb out easier.

Good motor at a reasonable price, fitted in my Geronimo 2 nicely, being cased there is no way to trash the power leads

Great motor

Purchased for my Arthobby Evolution. Fits in like a dream with wires coming out of the rear end.
Only need an 8 x 6 prop drawing 26 amps, and it gets my Evolution (1020) grams up at 11.2 m/s on a 900 mah 35c lipo. Fantastic.

Direct drive for a small F5J style model

I use this motor for the Joy F5J model. It fits the model perfectly (size and weight). To my pleasant surprise, with a VM 10x6 prop, this drive is surprisingly quiet, and the model can rapidly climb to altitude on a 3S battery. I am pretty happy with it so far.

I put this in a 3.5m Yellow Jacket,
1230g.
I've just maidened it on the weekend with old batteries. This motor has plenty of grunt with the VM 11x7 prop. I'm well happy with my decision to use it.
