The Stark 2017 is a superb discus launched glider from LD Models which has been compared with the Stobel for its outstanding performance. Its excellent wing design and slim fuselage give it the highest levels of performance, however it is easy to fly and will bring out the best in all fliers. The 2017 version we are now stocking has updated wing layups and colour schemes, making it lighter and more attractive.

The Stark is available in two versions:

Checkerboard Carbon DBox layup wing. This is the standard option and weighs about 30 g more than the Light SC but is bullet proof and suitable for all throwers and all conditions. The stronger layup makes it especially good for slope usage.

Light spread carbon layup wing. This Vladimir veil type SC gives a very light wing that is suitable for most conditions though perhaps not a very powerful thrower with ballast. The SC is a very light weave and it is normal to see the occasional gap between the strands.

The one piece fuselage is molded from spread carbon with a carbon carbon hatch. The tail has a small pylon on which the tailplane is mounted. The wings and tail are molded over solid foam cores, making the models much tougher and ding proof than hollow molded models of similar light weight. The aileron servos are usually mounted in the wing, with just the rudder and elevators servos mounted in the fuselage.

The aerodynamics have been optimised over three years, going through several iterations of airfoil and planform, with the final version a great improvement over their previous offering. The Stark DLG model is ideal for customers looking for maximum flying performance and model toughness, for the money. The finish of the parts is less good than some competing DLGs but this does not affect the performance in any way.

The photos show the previous version and colour schemes. The current models have an all carbon fuselage. Photos will be updated soon.

The model comes with control horns and a nice throwing blade. Pushrod and/or pull-spring wire needs to be supplied by the builder. We recommend our HyperFlight 0.8/1.4 Pushrod Set and 20 SWG piano wire.

We don't have any build instructions but please study Oleg's build photos starting post #165 in this old RCGroups Stark thread. Also check out this newer Stark thread.

Stark 2017

Very good value for money. Ideal price for a beginner in F3K.
However, with no detailed build instructions it might be daunting for a beginner.
Just had a very flights so far quite pleased.

I own a Stark full carbon (Carboline - there is also a litle heavier Textreme version in production). First build AUW was 235 now (after a slight accident with the tail) 245g. So it can (easily - because I am no expert builder) be build lighter than the stated 266 g! My setup is 2 KST x08, 1 ripmax 100, magnetic switch, receiver and 1200mah 1s lipo.

It launches very high and has extremely good flying characteristics. It does, however, need quite a bit of ballast to handle Wind (over 5m/s).

I have flown it alongside Snipes and Streams and though it lacks in some areas it can play with the big boys and not lose face completly. I would VERY much recommend this glider!!!

Great great plane! Its a realy high launcher and floats really good. Building wasnt hard at all with some help from Neil, but you need some building experience then you need to drill wing and stabilisator screw holes and get the correct angles.

Finish is superb but be carefull to not lay down it on a dirty table then you can get bumps on it. I used 4 MKS DS65K servos and a 360Mah 2S lipo with bec and a Sanwa rx500 receiver and all up weight was only 240grams, and I could even get it lighter with less use of glue and lighter wingservo cables. Compared to the Blaster 3 the Stark floats better and launch higher but maybe a litte bit more sensitive on the control surfaces so use expo!

I love this DLG!

Got the dbox/kevlar version to try out. It's a very straight forward build and the extra room in the fuse is very accommodating for your choice of electronics. The finish is next to the absolute best available anywhere at any price.

The launch is great, the float is even better...

It has no bad habits I've found yet, I'll be getting another as soon as soon as possible. Do yourself a favor and get one while you can.

All the best,
