KST X08 X08N X08H Plus Gear Set

Used my first set of these today to repair an X08 plus flap servo on my Mini Vector, the final drive pinion and output gear were both stripped.
First thing I noticed was that the larger diameter original gears were brass with steel pinions except for the output shaft gear, which was steel, while the new gear set was entirely hardened steel.
When I began to fit the new gears I ran into a couple of problems. The new steel gears have extremely tight clearances and I found I needed to carefully spring the shafts apart to get the last gear in the set into mesh. Also the top of the case took a bit of jiggling and pressure to push home.
The servo after reassembly felt extremely tight even after a couple of minutes exercise by the servo tester and I was concerned that there might be some operational problems. I then disassembled the servo and replaced the original gears except for the faulty output gears. The servo felt and sounded much better, backlash was still virtually zero and operation seems ok so far. On looking closely at the other X08 replacement gears I notice that the set I used has a different surface finish. Perhaps I got an odd one...
Overall I am happy with the outcome and will keep you informed about performance in service.
