Description

The Mini Q is a lovely 80 cm (32") composite glass/carbon flying wing model that can be built as an electric sports racer or as a slope soarer. It is fast! We previously listed it as Tiny Q.

The kit consist of a very nicely molded glass and carbon one piece wing and pod. The attractively shaped fin is also molded and fits into a slot in the rear of the pod. A little fettling may be required to get it to slide into place smoothly. A nosecone molding and a carbon firewall are also supplied. Either one of these should be fitted depending on whether the model is built as a slope soarer or an electric racer . The firewall is about 33 mm diameter so it should be possible to mount 28 mm outrunner motors without too much difficulty.

A complete accessory pack is supplied including elevon pushrods with clevises, plywood servo mounts suitable for KST X08 servos, and carbon control horns and servo covers.

Note this model is quite highly loaded and is not suitable for less experienced modellers. Don't forget to reflex the elevons 2mm and start with a forward CG and launch over long grass until the trim has been dialled-in.

This is absolutely fantastic, test flew last weekend in about 20mph wind , cg at 20mm, 3mm up trim on elevons and away she flew.
Very responsive and fast !! Absolutely love it !!

Mini Q slope soarer

What a super little sloper !! Assembled in a couple of hours using little Emax servos which fit perfectly, cg at 20mm, 3mm reflex on the ailerons and away she flew, two clicks of left aileron trim and that was all the trimming required !!
Very impressive stability, no dropping of wings even when slowed down, not that it will slow down very much. This little plane makes you grin, lots of fast fun !!

Mini Q slope version

Finally got my Mini Q flying yesterday in a good breeze of 15 - 25mph, and found it to be great fun, and requiring full concentration! Trimming had been a struggle, with the model uncontrollable using the recommended settings. it's a tribute to the strength, ( and light weight) of the model that the first 2 arrivals caused no damage. 3rd launch settings were - CofG 22mm, reflex 3mm, elevator +/- 4mm, aileron +/- 8mm. I may later increase the aileron movement for better roll rate.
Thanks to Hyperflight for usual excellent service!

Built for speed

Well made aircraft that will cut thru the air like butter. In the process of making it into a 6s fpv cruiser.

MiniQ Slope Glider

Mini-Q slope glider, this one for my wee brother as Big brothers went so well.
Well-made, flys on rails, Excellent.

Mini Q Slope Racer

I've flown the mini-q twice now in 20+mph winds, as a glider. It flys really well. Penetration & loops are easy. It's already survived a very hard landing with no ill effects. With a small lump of moulded blue tac in the nose the CoG is set at 23mm. Reflex is set at 3mm. I've taped the nose cone on but left the fin simply pushed on. The black & yellow colour scheme help me see this small plane. Great fun. Now my favourite model.

Superb quality

Not built mine as yet, but bought one on the recommendation of my friend who has two !.

The quality of moulding is excellent, no bleed through in the colouring or text either.

Looking forward to ripping this wee beastie around on my local slope.

1st class service from HyperFlight.....model arrived well packed, and was posted quickly too.

Let's soar!

Thanks Hyperflyght for that creation!
Mini Q looks easy to mount, easy to transport and fun to fly! Strong carbon/fiber structure give to this plane strenght and acro ability even in strong wind condition.
What to say... Jump in the sky with that plane!

Mini Q Slope Racer

This is my second Mini Q. The first came to grief in a 40mph wind on a Welsh hillside after a few hours of exciting flying, some of which I had a degree of control. Most of the time it was pure survival. It would have been repairable, but as there’s a new, improved batch in stock I opted for a new airframe and lift & shift the radio gear across. It’s such good value for money.
Ten points to TJIRC for the extra fiberglass over the central bulkhead which is exactly where my failure was. It’s a pity the front carbon canopy pin now interferes with it so the canopy no longer sits as it should. I removed the offending pin and replaced with a shorter carbon 0.8mm strip that’s got the flexibility to work. The carbon pin is too stiff with a shorter length.
Easy build second time round. Lesson learnt from the first build - leave gluing the tail on till last so you can work on the wing on the flat.
Back on the same Welsh hill in a light 10mph wind to trim it out last weekend. Very pleased with the outcome and service from Hyperflight.

Very Good this Plane

The mold quality is low, the model I received has several flaws, too bad because the model deserves a higher quality.

Mini Q slope

Just got back from a maiden flight with the Mini Q. What a plane! Been flying slope for 20yrs and love small, quick and aerobatic gliders. This thing ticks all the boxes. 15mph wind and away she went. Beautiful axel rolls and good turn of speed. No hint of tip stall when I slowed her down into wind.
My advice, go with the recommended C of G. It seemed insanely too far forward to me but worked. Also don’t forget the 3mm of up trim. Never had a model require this before but it works.

Mini Q Slope

Very pleased with the quality of the moulding. I’ll be using this on the slope.

The mid body plywood bulkhead where the wing spar would be now has a fiberglass bridge that makes the wing completely rigid. Well done.

The fin needs a little fettling to get it to fit, but once the gel coat is sanded off the mating surfaces, there’s very little that needs to be taken off the fin sides to get it to fit. The nose cone is a bit of a sloppy fit, which is a good thing so there’s room for some carbon / epoxy packing. I didn’t like their metal clevises so I am using black MPJ plastic ones as they match the carbon horn.

Fast and well packed service as ever. As soon as it stops raining, I’ll be heading for the hills.

MiniQ

Firstly the finish of this model is impressive, on par with my Voodoo's, it's simply slick!. Much better priced than the Voodoo. First time out today with my new Mini-Q,
I've uploaded a short video on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYZTs3isZHw , my second flight and as you can see the performance was awesome. Mine turned out considerably heavier at 480g as I used a Mega 16/15/3 (turning a 4.7x4.7 prop) and a large/heavy 3s 1300ma pack. Despite the weight launching was straight forward however and maybe due to the weight and forward CofG I had to tune in 4mm of up on the elevons to maintain level flight, once trimmed the flight was 'on rails' using Hyperflight's recomended CofG (not the manufacturers!). I'll probably switch to 4s and a 4.1x4.1 and push the speed even further. The only downside is the non availability of a spinner to match the nose/firewall, nearest is 2mm smaller which is a little disapointing. Perhaps Neil could feedback this to the supplier and either move the firewall slightly forward to match 32mm spinners or to supply 34mm spinners. The fact that I'm buying another two says it all! One for a sloper and another for a different motor setup.

Mini Q

A lovely moulded model, as indicated a little bit of work with a file to get the fin/fin slot perfectly mated but no great hassle. The supplied wooden frames for the KST servos were used as well as the KST X08H servos themselves and a Hobby King motor which at the time was at a reduced price, a Spider SP2206 2300kv (33g) outrunner sitting outside in the fresh air, a 5.2X5.2 Cam Speed prop and a 3s 1300 mAh LiPo. I have the option of upgrading to a 2600kv motor if I feel I need more speed. I set my Tx. for 50% expo. recognising this baby might be a touch twitchy and was glad I did so for on its maiden flight I suffered my usual twitchy thumb syndrome (every maiden) so the flight was conducted circumspectly. The model in its present set up might not be the fastest in a straight line but oh boy pull in full elevator and it changes direction very fast. I was glad I chose the Yellow top surfaces with Black undersides and Yellow flashes as this makes it easier to decide which is up and which is down, do not let this model go too far away as if you do get a bit too far distinguishing which is up and down might be difficult.

It’s a nice model. I’ve put this one together as a powered model and was happy with the performance with the suggested motor and prop combo. I may need to buy another one to do as a dedicated slope model and as usual great service from Hyperflight.
