Description

The Tango F5J is a very nice 3.15m four servo wing (flap and aileron) all CNC cut wood kit. The wing uses carbon tubular spars to facilitate quick and accurate construction, and the CNC parts fit together like a beautiful giant jigsaw. Two carbon tubes per wing make it extremely torsion-resistant and allow the Tango to be flown on windier days with impunity. The large span, optimal aspect ratio, and HQ30/11 airfoil and full span control surfaces give the Tango an excellent glide angle and duration. Adding a little camber allows the models to thermal beautifully, so it can climb in even the weakest lift. The Tango is easy to master and the landings are child's play with the big flaps. The landing approach can be nearly vertical! If the flaps are set to 90° the Tango sinks safely very steeply and can be rounded out and alighted on the spot with ease.

But who is talking about landing? We want to fly the Tango does that very well. Even with normal flap position, the Tango thermals well. With the flaps in thermal position it's even better. When travelling back upwind raise the flaps a bit and the Tango pickings up speed without losing height.

The Tango really likes to circle tight. After the development and before the serial production of the models the manufacturer built several models to really verify the data. They found the Tango can fly very slowly but also has a wide speed range. It was built to circle in the thermals and to land accurately. Both are possible to perfection. The 4 control surface wing can be adapted to any desired situation. Modern programmable transmitters offer countless possibilities.

As English build manual is now available. See the Tango EN Build Manual [147kb] download link just below the video and above the reviews. Use this in conjuntion with the photos in the German manual.

This is my first order for a glider I was surprised at the speed of delivery, I had built the rudder, rudder post, elevator and stabaliser within 10 mins what a pleasure to build it is correct fits like a jigsaw. I have found building this model you cannot wait to get going pure enjoyment, I have only the wings to build now will be buying again from hyper flight well done

Very fast delivery, packaged very well. With kits of this quality, i dont understand why more folks are not building. The quality of the kit is excellent, it comes with its own balancing jig. Highly recommend Hyperflight and the kit, you wont be dissapionted

Delivery was extremely quick, and it arrived in good condition. The kit is superb, withh all the parts so far fitting perfectly. The drawback to me is the instruction Manual in German.. I really don't want to miss anything but using the pictures is not ideal. However, I can't wait to finish it...

Tango 3.1

Bought this as a future project, so have not yet started the build. However, as always, the kit arrived well packaged(double boxed) and on time. I have to say that I have always found the service from Hyperflight excellent. Always a good variety of kits in stock. Will update when I start the build.

Unseen in photos

While dry-fitting the wing center section, I was perplexed about how the trialing edge at the flap hinge point is constructed. The two spruce strips get glued to the ribs, that’s obvious. But surely that space between them cannot be left open. That’s when I found the four pieces of very soft, light-weight tapered tailing edge stock. They receive a scarf joint to double their length, and are glued to the ends of the ribs and spruce strips. After a lot of head scratching, I determined that the thinner edge of the tapered stock should align with the top of the wing. Doing so will allow some upwards reflex in the flap movement during flight.

Caution

The build manual appears to show the fiberglass motor mount installed quite early in the build. I discovered (in time, thankfully) that the upper forward fuse’ sheeting tabs onto it and THIS SLOT DETERMINES THE DOWN-THRUST ANGLE. Install the motor mount any time you like, but be sure to use that piece of sheeting to position it correctly.

Amazing design and quality of materials

Being busy with another build, I have just begun assembling my new Tango kit. I have been building kits for nearly sixty years. Therefore I can confidently say that this is the finest kit I have ever seen. It is well worth the cost. There are no English instructions. I do not read German. I’ve tried several methods of translating the instructions without success. Haste makes waste. Therefore, I am proceeding with this build very slowly and carefully, The photos are helpful, and the wing plan is exceptional. There are a great many parts included. Therefore, I dry-fit everything, considering assembly sequence and parts relationships very carefully before gluing anything. I have no doubt that when finished, this will be the finest model I have ever had the pleasure to build.

Going together nicely so far. You can take pictures of the manual pages and feed them directly into Google documents which will do OCR and translate at the same time. Outputs are not perfect, but the pics in the manual are pretty good and I don't think I'll have any mystery spare parts left over - it's a well-thought-out, well-produced kit that's going together nicely.

This is a great kit, but if you don’t read German you’ll need Google Translate and look at the build pictures very carefully! The parts are well cut and the kit goes together very easily. I love the ‘combs to help space the wing ribs and the angled piece to get the canted ribs correctly aligned. Nice touches! One thing, if you have a small car, realize this is a 2 piece wing, they take up a lot of space. It flies like a dream. My first flight launched into a thermal and it was climbing out while I trimmed it and checked how well the flaps work. The ad is right, this bird likes to fly! And, it’s quite a nice looking airplane even when it’s just sitting on the flight line.

another great kit by CAD2CNC

This is a high quality kit, especially the CF tubes employed. building the Tango was as much fun as flying it. If you have built the Samba (my favorite 2M RES), you will be familiar with the building techniques used for this bird. Instructions are in German and the Plans are not fully self explanatory. Flight characteristics are quite pleasant---very wide speed range, hard to stall with easy recovery. Highly recommend, but would use the most powerful motor that will fit in the space, i used an AXi 2220/20 with 14x7 GM props, which is just barely adequate .
