Super Topsky 2 DLG
Product Code: SUPER-TOPSKY-2
Description
Super Topsky 2 DLG
The Super Topsky 2 is an economical, fun, and lightweight discus launched glider. Its Drela airfoils and low weight make it a surprisingly good DLG, and its kevlar, carbon and blue foam construction ensure it is tough and ding proof, making it ideal for sport rough and tumble flying off the flat or small slopes. The performance enhancement over the previous Topsky 2 Viper version come from:
a) Improved aerodynamics. The wing was upgraded to a 3-panel planform from the original 2-panel design. This allows the designer to match the chord of the wing to the selected airfoil more accurately to yield higher efficiency, and also decrease the area of the wing, reducing drag. The resulting reduced wetted area and slightly higher wing loading allows the Super Topsky 2 to range further, fly faster, and launch higher.
b) Improved structure. The wing now has a very strong carbon D-box front part, with the rear of the wing covered in lightweight Kevlar. The Kevlar fuselage pod also sports carbon fiber reinforcing, and a lightweight wrapped carbon boom. The nicely finished tailplane and fin are of lightweight glass and carbon over blue foam construction.
This lovely model is supplied as a very complete kit, requiring little construction. The kit includes a complete accessory pack, including all linkages and a plug and socket for connecting the aileron servos. The laser cut ply pieces supplied make up a jig to help with aligning the tail when gluing it in place. See the Super Topsky Tail Installation Guide. The otherwise good Super Topsky Installation Manual doesn't mention this.
Also see this RC Groups build thread for up to date info. The current modesl do not come with disser (criss-cross) carbon reinforcement.
This model is supplied with separate left and right wings, and with carbon material supplied to reinforce the join. This allows the modeller to set the dihedral to an angle suitable for the intended flying style - 6.3º if mostly DLG flying from the flat, or a much lower dihedral angle (2º recommended) if the model will mostly be used on the slope. This option, and the rugged bagged solid foam wing with a strong DBox, make the Super Topsky 2 one of our best DLG type gliders for slope soaring on not too windy days.
