Description

The RES Dart Electric is a superb 2m flying wing that incorporates very advanced aerodynamics to provide astounding performance. The RES-Dart is unusually stable for a flying wing and has good thermal performance, and a wide speed range. This electric version uses a small tractor propeller to avoid the hassle of using high starts. The model impresses with its balanced flight characteristics, the enormous performance potential and the extraordinary manoeuvrability (see following video). The large 2 piece spoilers enable steep descents, allowing safe exits from thermals and accurate landings. The wing is two part and the winglets can be detachable, making for a very transportable model. Like our other F3-RES models this is a high quality build-it-yourself kit constructed from CNC and laser cut balsa and plywood.

The wing profile has been optimised to give good performance while at the same time being easy to build. The thickness of approx. 9.5% allows for a lightweight structure and provides good torsional strength. The contour of the profile is only curved in the region of the front Dbox. To the rear of this, similar to the AG35, planar facets prevent covering sag between the ribs and thus ensure an accurate section is maintained. The wing geometry and sweep have been practically tested and flown many times while optimising the model's structure and aerodynamics. Thanks to its wing profile, low surface load and DSA winglets, the RES-Dart Electric has extremely good-natured flying characteristics, which enable practiced pilots to crank up the model into the tightest thermal turn and climb away from very low launches.

The recommended powertrain is a 28 g - 40 g outrunner with a Kv between 1100 RPM/V and 1400 RPM/V, powered by a 400 - 600 mAh 2S or 3S LiPo battery.

More info on this RCGroups thread. Also see this German build log for photos and info - use Google Translate.

Download the German manual from here. An excellent English translation is now available here. The kit does not include a plan. Although this is initially off-putting a clever build jig is included and with some observation of the manual photos the construction process becomes clear.

Dart Electric 2m

As usual, the service from Hyperflight just couldn't be better. The parcel arrived in Thailand in less than 2 weeks. I am just about to start building. The quality of the kit is superb, the laser cut lines are really fine. Looking forward to getting it in the air. Thanks, Neil

Nice kit

Kit looks nice, one of the ribs is missing the tail, no biggie though. Make sure to buy a 38mm spinner and not a 30mm as recommended on the page as this is wrong.

RES Dart

Picked up the kit from Hyperflight, worth the drive just for the visit and purchased a couple of other bits as you do.
The kit is splendid with first rate laser cutting the width of a hair(slight exaggeration) but very clean and exact.
Reading a build note from some one else which said (if the part doesn't fit it's the wrong one or you made a mistake) is spot on. Every part fits like a glove.
Everyone mentions no English instructions and I didn't think this would affect my build having built numerous kits before(obviously cheap and nasty) but this model is something quite different and looking at the parts and what ever instructions you can get several time before and during the build is essential. I did make a mistake on the fuselage and the first wing due to not understanding the building method and precision of the build.
It's not finished yet and still needs a final sand on all parts but I have high hopes for this model with the low weight of each item.
The kit is expensive when compared to others but what you get is well worth it, with the quality wood and a well thought out building process. I have built a glider fuselage as well which is a simple task which only carries the receiver and battery.

A great kit of beautifully laser cut ply and balsa parts, delivered as usual extremely quickly by Hyperflight. BUT, as mentioned elsewhere there is no plan, however there is a translation of the German manual on the Hyperflight web site. Unfortunately the translator neither spoke English very well, nor it would seem was concerned in helping the reader to understand the sequences of construction. It makes amusing reading but does let the kit down. So not for the inexperienced builder, but if one takes a lot of time to understand all the parts, will be an satisfying build.

Res Dart

A great kit, but could do with construction photos to aid with the building process. There are websites showing construction, but still open to silly errors.
Good quality balsa, and lovely laser cutting.
Not a beginners kit, but fairly straightforward for experienced modellers.

Res Dart reception

Very well packed and well received. Can't wait to build it.. Challenge will be to be near or lower than 500 gr.

Not a cheap model for what you get but well worth it if you want performance with a unique feature.
This kit will build up into what will be a great model with a high spec.
Certainly not for the inexperienced modeller but even so taking your time and studying the construction many times would certainly be an aid to the semi novices to the building techniques employed.
I will be flying mine in semi hostile areas in the Welsh hills and am taking the time to fit spruce leading edge spars ( the supplied balsa ones are in the medium to medium soft grade and wouldn't survive Bracken and grass tussocks) and supplementing the build with a few corner gussets around the leading and trailing edges of both the root and tips of the wings. This will incur a small weight penalty but I am not going to fly the RES Dart in competition.
I have opted for the power fuselage which I will glass in light glass cloth., I may even get the glider fuselage at a later date.
I have side blocked the ribs up with pins in the jig and will fit the 2 spruce spare like this.
Slide in the bottom spruce spar leaving it 5mm short of the last rib.
Glue and fit the top spruce spar and fit then blob glue onto the bottom spar adjacent to the ribs. Slide the spar into position and lift it into the rib slots. Using short elastic bands loop them around the lower spar and up and over the top spar and bridge them out with a matchstick do this at every rib position making sure the lower spar is well into the rib slots. The bands need to be close to the ribs and tight enough to hold the spars firmly but not too tight to warp the rib.
Good Luck to potential builders. I can't wait to get mine to flight status.
