PULSAR-2008 |
| Description: |
The Pulsar 2008 is the latest version of the well regarded line of Pulsar 2m electric R/C soarers. The Pulsar 2008 is a very light high tech full house 2m electric glider that is optimised for sport flying. It uses the latest Ukrainian composite construction techniques married to a modern aerodynamic design with a wing utilising Mark Drela's slippery AG25 airfoil for best thermal duration performance. The low wing loading enables excellent thermal climb performance, with fully articulated wing controls allowing the model to be centred accurately in small turbulent thermals. The thin low drag airfoil works well over a surprisingly large speed range, allowing the model to be safely brought back after drifting far downwind.
Like other quality thermal soarers the entire model is constructed using free-flight techniques. The wing is a balsa built-up carbon fibre and Kevlar D-box design that utilizes carbon capped balsa ribs and a carbon trailing edge. The open section wing and tail are covered with Ultracote Lite.
The fuselage is made of white gel-coated carbon/Kevlar cloth with carbon tapered boom and removable Kevlar/CF nose cone. Note the carbon in the cloth weave means that the fuselage is not transparent to 2.4GHz radio waves, and the antenna whiskers will have to be externally placed. The three piece wing and 2-piece conventional tail are each easily removable for transport and storage. The rudder servo installs in the vertical stab as well as the elevator servo in the end of the carbon fibre boom. The careful use of composites, combined with a high quality design ensures a lightweight and rigid structure. This high performance model is perfect for the sports flyer who wants to experience top level performance with a compact and tough airframe.

Here are a few details relating to my Pulsar 2008 2m:-
Ready to fly weight: 674gms Rudder and elevator servos: Logic LSX 110(SD 100 ?) Aileron and flap servos: Logic LSX 180(SD 150 ?) Motor is direct drive: Medusa MR-028-040-1200 Prop Blades: Graupner 9x6 Cam Spinner :Aeronaut 30mm (about 34mm ctrs yoke) Battery one: TP Prolite 1320 3S Battery two: Loong Max 1000 20C 3S
Power: TP Batt about 160 Watts (17amps) Power: LM Batt about 190 Watts (19 amps)
Measured climb rate TP: 1779 FPM Measured climb rate LM: 2361 FPM
As I mentioned these seem higher than the figures you calculated. Both batteries are near there nominal ratings and as you can see the older TP battery must have a higher resistance.
The battery space in the Pulsar is a bit tight and I did have a bit of trouble finding a battery to fit from my collection. The TP is a lovely fit(I think the 2100 size is the same cross section). The LM is very snug indeed but just about goes in.
