Avalon 3.7 Glider
Product Code: AVALON-G
Description
Avalon 3.7 Glider
The Vladimir's Models Avalon 3.7 is a version of the world renowned Super AVA Pro glider with flaps and ailerons. It is called Super AVA Pro 4 Flap by other dealers, but we like the idea of a name to evoke legends!
The Super AVA Pro is a wonderful model with brilliant soaring capabilities, but many modellers have asked for a version with flaps and ailerons, to improve manoeuvrability and allow more accurate landings. The Avalon 3.7 with its large flaps and ailerons fulfils these requirements in several ways:- easier entry into and exit from thermal turns; the airfoil’s camber can be optimised in flight; walking speed accurate landings with 85 degrees of flap and the ailerons set for crow braking.
Highlights of the Avalon 3.7:
Vladimir has taken the build to a new level of completeness, so the Avalon can be assembled in only a few hours. Work done in the factory to speed final assembly is as follows:-
The Avalon is a thermal duration model suitable for sports fliers and competition fliers alike, the fully articulated wing makes it great fun to fly, with responsive handling and a very wide speed range.

Highlights of the Avalon 3.7:
- The large 3.7m span results in a very low sink rate, and has a large visual footprint, allowing the model to be flown further away than smaller soarers.
- The fully articulated wing allows the model to outclimb others in weak lift, and also to penetrate back upwind after following a thermal to the limits of vision.
- The Avalon wing planform has been optimised to be nearly elliptical, and the construction of the tip panels utilises a carbon D-box for stiffness and strength. Good adherence to the airfoil profile also gives a useful drag reduction.
- The massive flap is bottom hinged, allowing the model to be slowed to walking pace and making accurate landings child's play.
- The Avalon's high aspect ratio tailplane has a carbon D-box construction, increasing strength and reducing trim drag.
- The fin has a molded fixed portion, with a low drag central tailboom attachment that allows the fin to be removed making the Avalon more transportable.
- The pod also has a carefully engineered wing pylon to reduce interference drag. It is also very long allowing a smallish motor to be used to achieve the correct CG, and large propellers, for an efficient powertrain. Its rigid structure allows kilowatt sized motors to be installed for ultra fast climbs, if required.
Vladimir has taken the build to a new level of completeness, so the Avalon can be assembled in only a few hours. Work done in the factory to speed final assembly is as follows:-
- The wing control surfaces have been hinged and the servo wires threaded into place.
- All pushrods and horns have been fabricated, wires bent, etc.
- Fitting the servos in the fin has been simplified.
- The only work required to compete the model is to glue the boom to the pod; attach the V mount and fin, then install the powertrain & RC gear.
The Avalon is a thermal duration model suitable for sports fliers and competition fliers alike, the fully articulated wing makes it great fun to fly, with responsive handling and a very wide speed range.
